Starting the Day Off on a High Note

Rocky - on his 7th birthday
I have a dog named Rocky.  He is a 7-year-old cockapoo.  We named him Rocky because he was mainly white as a puppy and he had one black eye.  Rocky has become an important member of our family.  He greets us when we come home as he approaches us at the door with his little stump-of-a-tail wagging. He has become more cuddly over the last couple of years.  He is well-known for being very obedient, and he loves to do tricks.  Everyone loves Rocky.

Rocky and I have a special routine every morning.  He waits for me to get up, get out of the shower, and he anticipates the dog treat that's about to come.  My kids have noticed how excited Rocky gets.  He actually ran up (or flew up) the stairs to my bedroom, three at a time, to get my attention.  It's as if he is saying, "Come downstairs, now, I can't wait to get my treat!".  He runs, spins around, jumps up, as I am walking towards the cupboard that holds the treats.  It is our morning ritual.  He's excited to see me, and I'm happy to help him get his day started on a high note.  He spends most of his day at home alone, so at least I know he's had a little bit of excitement.

The bond Rocky and I share is unique.  He knows he'll get a treat, just because I woke up.  It makes him really happy to see me.  It helps me start the day off on  a high note, too.

Pets - gotta love 'em.

Have an awesome day!

Great Dane Slide

If at first you don't succeed...

Found this video about two cute dogs on Pinterest.  Shows the determination of a Basenji puppy, trying to get comfy on a Great Dane.  The big dog didn't seem to care much about what was going on.

Good Things

Good things come to those who wait.
Here's a picture of my dog, Rocky.  We put some popcorn in front of him, and told him, "Off".  He patiently waits until the command, "Take it", is given.  We got him to take one at a time.  I enhanced this picture using the free photo editing website, Picnik.

Have a great day!

Lorenzo the Cat

Still Life with Cat

I found this cute website, about Lorenzo the Cat.  The photographer Joann Biondi of Miami, says her cat, Lorenzo, is an ordinary, working-class feline.  He is mellow and independent.  He just happens to like fashionable clothes and enjoys having his picture taken.

Check out the website at http://www.lorenzothecat.com/.  The "Gallery Prints/Shop" section is very entertaining.  Some of my favourites are Born Free and Buddha Puss.  I'll have to ask if he could do a "Canadian Cat".

Have a great day!

Funny Video for You

Call it my "Dark Side", but sometimes I laugh at other people's misfortune.  I found this great YouTube video called, "BEST funny accidents!" and I wanted to share it with you.  It is a compilation of video clips, bloopers and funnies set to music and some of the clips are older and I've seen them before (years ago) and some are classics that we still have circulating today.  Some I had never seen before.  I don't care for the scenes where it looks like there's a big chance of injury, but I am assuming all these people and animals in this video were okay and did not suffer serious injury.  I was laughing out loud at some parts.

If you are having trouble seeing this, go to this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoCqvnJFUUA&has_verified=1

Schadenfreude is a German word  and it means "pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others". This German word is used as a loanword in English and some other languages (English doesn't have a word like this).  I believe that most of us get nervous or upset when we see someone else get hurt, so our knee-jerk reaction to it is to laugh.  Remember, it's okay to laugh WITH people, not AT them.

Have a great day, and please, don't get hurt!

Dog Tricks Starring Rocky

I love my dog, Rocky.  He is a 5-year-old cockapoo, and he does lots of tricks. We video taped his tricks and made a music video.  My daughter suggested the music - Eye of the Tiger, by Survivor.  We named our dog Rocky, because he has a black eye.  Hope you enjoy our music video.

Master Jackson, Puppy Extraordinare

"Whoever said you can't buy happiness forgot little puppies." -- Gene Hill

It actually looked like we had a toddler in the house again; little toys scattered all over the living room floor. Soft ones, squeaky ones and a big comfy pillow to sleep on.

We have had the pleasure of dog-sitting a special little black Havanese puppy called "Jackson".  He is also affectionately known as "Jack", or "Jackie Chan".  He is 10 weeks old and he is really cute.  I forgot what it's like to have a puppy around.  His playfulness, combined with his good looks and small stature makes him really easy to love.  Jackson is an active little puppy when he's awake.  He likes to play tug-o-war, and he is learning the commands, "sit" and "lay down".  He is also being housetrained, and is doing pretty good with that, too.  Our dog Rocky, at five-years-old, seems amused with Jackson's energy and enthusiasm.  Jackson wouldn't touch his puppy food if it was in his own bowl.  As soon as we put it into Rocky's bowl, he chowed down.  He also whined until we put a few pieces of Rocky's kibble into his bowl.

Everyone loves friendly little Jackson, and he has a beautiful silky black coat.  His little tail curls up and around his rump when he walks.  His eyes are big and brown and he follows little butterflies and birds when they catch his eye.  He hops along when he runs.  He licks your toes under the table.  He reminds me of my little cockapoo I had many years ago.  Her name was Bunny.

Here's a picture of my daughter and her cousin, holding this sweet little puppy, Jackson.  For more on the Havanese breed, visit this site: http://www.akc.org/breeds/havanese/

Rocky and Trixie

My dog Rocky turned 5 this year.  His sister, Trixie, was a guest at our home one weekend.  Rocky and Trixie haven't seen each other very much since they were little.  It was nice to have two dogs again in the house (my other dog, Gypsy, died in Nov. 2009).  Rocky and Trixie came from the same litter.  They are cockapoos.  Their mom is a black cocker spaniel, and dad is a white poodle.  They are non-shedding and are small to medium sized. Here are some pictures of them - then and now.

Trixie loves to be with me all the time, and she waits outside the bathroom door for me.  She likes to find a comfy spot under my bed.  She loves belly rubs and enjoys affection.  She loves to go for walks, too.  I had her running around in our backyard for exercise.  One morning,  I heard her whimpering,  so I went over to see what she wanted.  She was standing by the dog food bowl.  I remember being told that she doesn't like to eat out of the bowl, but prefers it on a carpet or mat. I encouraged her to eat from the bowl.  She attempted to, but then backed off.  She looked at me with her very big, brown eyes, and I could tell she wanted me to move the food from the bowl to the mat.  I put a handful on the mat, and she ate it right away.  She's so funny that way!

Dogs are great pets, and it's always nice to have company for my dog.

Cheers!

Einstein - The World's Smartest Bird

"Live in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip." -- Will Rogers

I was looking for something for Friday Lite this week, and I came across this video about a talking parrot named Einstein.  I used to have budgies when I was young, and we also had a cockatiel when my kids were little.  I remember trying to get our cockatiel "Scotty" to talk, and he was able to copy some of our sounds. He even learned how to copy the noise the microwave makes when it is done. He used to whistle at me when I walked down the stairs. I love birds, and I found this video on "Einstein the Parrot".  There are a number of videos on YouTube about Einstein, and I found this video to be really entertaining.   I hope you enjoy watching Einstein.  It is a funny and entertaining three minutes.

Click here or go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1FtvS4ORwI&feature=related to see Einstein the Parrot performing on Animal Planet.

Christian the Lion

I found this video clip (from the 70's) on YouTube, and just had to share. It's so touching, and reminds us how special animals are and how they grow attached to us, too.

Enjoy!

Excuse me a moment, I have to go hug my dog now.

I Love Lucy

"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole." - Roger Caras

Lucy is a 4-year-old yorkipoo, and we are dog-sitting her for a week or two.  We are enjoying having this "little heartbeat at our feet", and Rocky, our 4-year-old cockapoo is also enjoying her company.  Lucy enjoys the kennel that our dog Gypsy used to enjoy.  She likes belly rubs, and massages.  She is a sweet little dog, and we are enjoying her while she is with us.  Dogs are wonderful pets, and they bring a little bit of fun and sunshine into our lives, and encourage us to get outside more. Thanks to Lucy's owners for letting us borrow her for awhile.

 "I think dogs are the most amazing creatures;
they give unconditional love.
For me they are the role model for being alive."
 - Gilda Radner
