U Weight Loss Clinic Secrets

Update: This location is now closed. Check the U Weight Loss Clinics website for a location near you.

I was in a store the other day, and noticed a "Free Detox and Cleanse" and "Healthy Weight Analysis" offer at the "U weight loss clinic".  I put my name and information on the ballot and dropped it into the box.  I received a call two days later, and was offered a free, one hour consultation.  I set up the appointment for the next day.

I arrived at the U Weight Loss Clinic and was immediately impressed by the three pictures that were hanging on the wall behind the front desk.  They said, "lose", "live", "love".  I filled out a Health History and waited.

While waiting, I found a u weight loss clinic brochure.  In it were the simple lifestyle secrets that allow you to reach your health weight and love your life:
  • Secret 1:  Detox and Cleanse
  • Secret 2:  Hormonal Balance
  • Secret 3:  Increase Metabolism
I was interested to learn more.

I met with a very young, attractive, fit-looking representative and she took me into a private room where I reviewed the "about" page on the U weight loss website.  She also had me read a testimonial about a woman who lost  40 lbs while on their program.  When she came back into the room she assessed me and asked me a lot of questions about my lifestyle, diet, and goals.

There is a "program" that I could join up for, but I told her I would need to speak to my husband.  The program involves the purchasing of supplements, and recipes and an exercise program that is necessary for the 2 lb. a week weight-loss.  She did not give me a price for the entire program, but recommended that I speak to my husband and get back to her.  She said I would need his support in terms of the recipes and the financial committment.

What she did give me was the free "Kick Start Detox-Rapid Loss" tablets and capsules (pictured above) that are contained in a nice, neat blister pack.  She said that these 4 tablets have to be taken twice daily and while on a Detox program (cleanse the internal systems to remove the toxin build up), you have to have three light meals daily, preferably high protein (like egg whites) and smoothies with protein powder.  She also did the Healthy Weight Analysis and helped me determine a healthy weight, according to the BMI (Body Mass Index).

They sell other types of supplements.  I was interested in the "Maintain Longevity", as it contains a lot of the minerals and vitamins that I like to take as a vitamin supplement.  In addition, it has coenzyme q10, antioxidants and herbs. The only downside to this was that you have to take three tablets, and they cost $54.95 for a two-week supply.  She said you only need to take for about 3 months however.  I asked her if they had a sample, and she gave me a sample from her own personal pack.

She recommended Vitamin E which is good for skin elasticity, and cautioned that if you take iron and calcium at the same time they cancel each other out.  She showed me a book called, "Nutritional Supplements" by Lyle MacWilliam, and said that if I take supplements I should check in this book as this author has done research on the different supplements and U weight loss supplements score 5 stars out of 5.  She also recommended Zinc for skin problems and said it can be used as a cream as well.  If I were to take only one supplement, she recommended Omega 3.  She said it's a healthy fat, and good for brain development and would be good for my adolescent daughter as well. They are $26.95 for 60 caplets.  She said Calcium is very important and should be taken daily.  She also recommended the "U Protein", which is a vanilla flavoured whey powder that you can put into a drink, like a smoothie.  This was $59.95.

I didn't feel any pressure to sign up.  I was fearful of that because I had done an online search of U weight loss clinic before I went.  Some people had reported that there is high pressure sales and they pressure people to sign up on the spot.  My representative said that if I decide to purchase any of the products, she can put together a deal for me.  She also emailed me some of the information sheets on some of the products I've mentioned earlier.  She also made sure I had her contact information.  No problems, and no pressure!

All-in-all, I gained some valuable information, and something to think about.  The Detox and Rapid Loss blister pack is something I am definitely going to try, and take it from there.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Calculate your own BMI (Body Mass Index).

Have a great day!

hi angela, i just went to my u weight loss clinic here where i live. i was hoping that there was no supplements involved as i want to get pregnant and its not recommended to take herbal supplements if trying to get pregnant and well this is what their premise is, and to me that is like a 'herbal magic' type weight loss program. thanks for your in depth review. :) much appreciated.

Good post, FYI- I joined last week and am finishing off my week of detox and rapid loss tablets tomorrow. To date I have dropped 7 pounds! If you decide to sign up remember you are investing in YOUR HEALTH, I think it's money well spent...but you have to be COMMITTED and DILIGENT about staying with the program. Be prepared to cut a lot of your old favorites cold turkey.

Great post. I have lost 45lbs and 40inches on Uweightloss. I started just before the summer and I love it! well worth the money. I have so much energy and I finally feel in control of my weigtloss. I signed up for another 40lbs and will be hitting my goal just before my next birthday!

Be aware of the MANY pills you need to swallow. I joined up after being told the pills are small. I cannot swallow pills. Strong gag reflex. The pills are many and large. Also three gels of Omega-3 that I bit in 3 x @ day with a cod liver oil jolt in my mouth. I cancelled within the 10 days and got $1100 back. However, not the remaining $8oo due to starting package, consulting session, etc. An expensive lesson for me. Research, research before handing over your credit card.
Good news is that I have lost 6 lbs. in less that a week just by following their meal plan suggestion of 400 calories per meal. All is not lost...no pun intended!!

It is actually not recommended to lose so much weight so fast as it usually is a result of people making TOO many changes TOO fast... Sounds like a great way to waste your money, buy real food (fruit, veggies, low fat dairy, lean meats) at the grocery store, get a gym membership and use it = WEIGHT loss.

Sorry for sounding so negative but I am very nervous about ingesting so much "stuff."

saw a add in the newspaper $99.00. I signed up for the $99.00 program and set up payments for six months. No one said anything about no refund or cancellation. The info given to me was pay as you go. I set up an option for payments to pulled out of checking account. After one month I realize this program was not for me, I am Gluten free, lactose free. I have a crazy busy job and family , and found out I did not have the time to pre make the food each day. After 30days I went back and I am now told they have a cancellation policy. But they can’t seem to find any information or my signature on this and are refusing to stop the payments. There is also the part about the extra or hidden charges, It is not 166.00 per month but vitamins 50.00 per week which is required. But the shake mix 89.00 and addition vitamins you can add on ETC . I should have done better into checking out this company. This part was a little shocking, but I know have to pay 166.00 for them to weight me, I should have joined Weight watchers.

I just joined U-Weightloss today; got an $89 voucher in my email. First impression is disappoint. I feel like the voucher i got was poorly written, and was under the impression that the first two weeks of supplements were included, not just the multi vitamin. Ended up having to buy the "starter kit" for $200. It is an investment in my health, so i'm willing to give it more of a chance (especially since I just dished out $300 for it) but I'm majorly disappointed that I had to spend more on top of my trial voucher to get the actual trial program. I feel kind of cheated I guess. But, i've got five weeks on the program, so we'll see how they go before i decide anything.

beware of u weight loss if you are on blood pressure meds with a diuretic. I ended up in hospital twice. Once with sever heart palpitation (turned out I was severely dehydrated) and 2nd time I was extremely low in potassium. Just be carefull...

It's a huge scam. As a health professional I was very sceptical and I signed up for only the weightloss portion of 16 weeks (they recommend 6 months)....then the starter kit 200.00 then the weekly suppliments 125.00 a week. Totally nuts, I lost 10 lbs in 4 weeks yes, but I haven't eaten sugar, drank coffee had a glass of wine, So basically not real life. I know 3 people that I have met in the clinic and all of them have gained back the weight after they left the program. Seems that not buying the suppliments may be a problem. When you take them, you have to pee right after...diaretic...detox....a latixitve, of course you'll lose weight. Your body it 2/3 water so yes the scale will be down. I asked about these products....no direct answers, I honetly don't think she had a clue. I will not be returning into my 6th week. Out $1200 and down 10 lbs, I'm sure that they'll give me that disappointed look when I go in but I'd rather drop 200 at a Naturopath and get some proper vitamins that I know exactly what's in the pills I'm popping my mouth. Would you pop a pill in your mouth if a stranger offered it to you? Unfortunately there are enough people that are desperate to do it when trying to lose weight. Have faith in yourself and question everything.....YOU CAN DO IT

I joined U-Weight (Surrey, BC) back in Nov. of 2011. I went the way of financing and was given the option of including the supplements in the financing or paying for them on an "as you go" basis. The financing was roughly $3,500 for what I thought was the "complete" package (program fee, starter kit, supplements, protein powder, maintenance). I was happy with the program, I lost @ 40 lbs in 5 months.
I was extremely surprised and upset when I entered the maintenance portion of the program and was told I needed to buy another $1,200 worth of supplements. NOT cool. I went to see a lawyer and provided her with all the documents I received (including the initial paper with the handwritten notes and costs). There was nowhere on any of the documents saying that there would be more charges and appeared that I had paid for the entire program/supplement costs. Here's the kicker - if you do NOT take the U-loss supplements and the maintenance supplements, they can kick you out of the program.
There is NO WAY that I would have paid $4,500 for a weight loss program. I could get lipo for less than that.
The franchise owner, Jamie Swan, offered "against company policy" to "allow" me to continue with the coaching and recipes to me without the supplements. Since the success of the program is based on the supplements, this was not acceptable to me or my lawyer. My lawyer sent her a proposal 3 weeks ago and we have not heard anything. I'm guessing we won't and I'll have to sue them in small claims court. And YES, I do have a case.

In short -- BE AWARE OF HIDDEN COSTS BEFORE YOU JOIN OR AGREE TO ANY PAYMENT PLANS.

Anonymous said...

I previously sent a comment regarding U-Weight and their hidden costs.
I did not sign anything saying I would not "share" the recipes or information I learned there, so I will be setting up a recipe and info blog so others can benefit from the $3,500 I already put into the program :D.

I am a health coach with U Weight Loss and I really understand that the cost can be quite high for the program. With that being said the supplements are so important for the client to have success especially in the maitnance portion of the program. I could go on and on about the ingrediants and why each one is important and how they work but I would encourage anyone who has any questions to call your local clinic and ask about them. It is very hard for anyone to lose weight on their own and keep it off. We offer a lifestyle change and teach how to maintain weight loss. I find the only people who do not do well on the program are those who do not come in 3 times a week. It is a great program but you would have to commit to the changes to have success.

Yesterday I walked into a local U weight loss clinic and found a new best friend. When my coach asked me what I needed from her, I told her that I needed to be able to laugh, to cry, and to be honest. Thankfully, she was good with that, and I'm looking forward to the journey of change that is looming ahead of me.

I don't have an issue with the program itself, its the staff members who I find most discouraging. The health coach who I bought the program through is amazing, and I feel like I can actually speak to her. Now that I've spend thousands of dollars, I'm stuck with a very "clinical" and cold girl who I do not connect with on any level. It is very discouraging as I feel I have been deceived, thinking I would be able to be coached by the informative and helpful health coach I had initially been interviewed by, but I assume she only works the "selling" end of the business.

I have been on this program a couple of times and am about to join again. It does work but you do have to stick with it. It's very difficult in my opinion to stay on plan for long periods of time. My advice don't join until you're seriously committed to the weight loss or else it is a waste of money. I thought I was ready hence why I have gone on and off but not I have just under a year till my wedding so that is my motivation.

I have been on the program at U Weight loss for two months now and have lost 14 pounds. There are no diuretics, no laxatives and no feeling of spending too much money. What they require you to be on is a MULTIVITAMIN and yes, it's theirs but if you do your research, you will find that it is only ONE of TWO in CANADA that has a 5 star rating for absorbability and getting the nutrients you need. The "De-Tox" is poorly names because it is not that at all, it's just a natural support while you are changing your ewating habits and straightening out your blood sugar levels. I am a Healthcare Professional and have brought the bottles into my Naturpath who suggested that they really are packed full of Nutrient support. For the first weeks it's true you can not have your fav's like Coffee, Wine etc but if you stick with it, your calorie intake increases and they actually teach you by the end of your journey to eat 80/20. 80% Healthy and 20% essentially what you want. No calorie counting, they print off amazing recipies for you, help you meal plan, get you into good habits, build an excercise plan for you that you can do without a gym membership and even print off a grocery list to help you plan your meals. A WELL THOUGHT OUT PROGRAM!! Worth a second look...or a first!

Anonymous said...

I am a health professional and I have to tell you that I was also on U weight loss program, however I didn't take the supplements, even though I purchased them and made them believe I was taking them. The result of my weight loss was the same as someone else's taking the supplements. I was losing 2 - 3 lbs weekly just by following their meal plans (as a gude) and felt as healthy as could be.
Another thing I have to tell you was that part of my job is going to various symposiums and conferences and I heard from many prominent doctors in past few years that taking vitamins and supplements is not necessary when eating well-balanced meals, which I did when I was on the program. The doctors were also saying (and proven by research) that many vitamin supplements can be also harmful when taken in excess than your body needs and 90% of people showed sufficient amount of vitamins and supplemts in their blood when they did the research over a 10-year period. When I was on a diet, yes, I had an occasional glass of wine and a cup of coffee every day. Lost 50 lbs over 9-month period. It has been 5 years and I haven't regaineded the weight, because I have been following the healthy eating habits since then.
So what I am trying to say is that all those diet programs are just money-grabbing scums when they say you must buy their supplements. Because how else they would be able to charge you $4,500? Plus, if you realize that, you pay the coaches (often with no education)over $30 per 10-minute visit....more than average physician! Think about it.

Anonymous said...

A bunch of scammers! they make you sign up for a monthly plan regardless if you are still with them or not, you would still get charged. I ended up losing about 5lbs from this place but since my weight tends to act up like a rollercoaster, it gained back within a week. I am not trying to sound like it's all their fault because I know it is mine as well for gaining that weight back, but at the same time, they set you up for these meal plans "guarantee-ing" that it will work, but all fails when you get sick and tired of eating the same things. Their recipes are also very bland

Hi....Just reading all of the comments ...good and bad and would like to give my 5 cents...I too joined the program just over a year ago....I first became aware of this when I purchased a groupon online for $120.00 which included a 2 week kick-start program...once into the clinic I was quickly blindsided into signing up for a 16week program costing...well much more than the $120.00 I had intended on paying...I really didn't have the money, but they introduced me to HealthSmart program, where I could pay monthly. By reading this, you may be feeling a negative vibe, but you must realize that I was looking for a program that would give me all the tools necessary to lose the weight. My goal was 30 lbs and they gave me a timeframe of 16 weeks to kick that weight in the butt! There were massive amounts of supplements/protein powder and the weekly cost for those blew my mind. I made up my mind and signed the dotted line and dedicated the next 16 weeks to these ladies, that would coach and scold me when necessary, and in the end I had lost 22 lbs and 24 inches. This was with very limited exercise...I got what I needed...meal plans that were easy to follow and many options to choose from, alternate menus choices for Thanksgiving(which inconviently was my first week on the plan...)and Christmas, so I wasn't left out in the cold watching my family eat all the delicious foods of the season. I visited 2-3 times a week to get weighed and to get my meal plans, which of course kept me on the right path. I found those visits were key. It's all up to the individual and that individuals will power and want to make that change. I have gained some of the weight back, not because UWeightloss failed me, but because I went back to my old eating habits. So the moral of my story is...it works if you follow the plan, you need to want it bad and be prepared. GOOD LUCK !! That is all.....

I work at a U weight loss, and just so everyone knows we are not high pressure sales. It is up to you as the client if you want to go on the program and what supplements you want to take. One of the supplements that is very beneficial during any calorie restriction diet is ULOSS and it consists of green tea extract a great detox agent, chromium which helps the insulin work properly in the body (preventing any spikes in blood sugars and the cycle of being hungry shortly after eating). A lot of diets cause nurtrient deficiencies which in turn cause other adverse health effects, and uloss is made up of over 50 nutritional ingredients, with minimal excipients (in other words "fillers".)
All of our supplements are to provide balance along with meal plans and our one on one coachings. P.S. the meal ideas are delicious and not much different from the stuff you already buy. Watching the transformations of the people that walk through that door is something amazing to say the least. I too was once overweight and unhappy at almost 200 lbs and only being 5'4" but after having 2 kids and weighing a healthy 135, I'm glad I went through the program because sometimes you just need a little motivation from someone other then yourself.

I also used this program and had good success, the problem was a few weeks later when the store was closed and no information was left for me. The head office said they would refund me but 6 months later have have come to the conlusion they are just another company ripping people off becuase they really don't care. I payed for the whole year up front to make myself committed to the program and they took my money and ran. I can't believe this happens but what can you do, their is no justice.

I also have started this program. Some comments were negative about the pill intake. Well, here's what a person must consider: There are many reasons why these pills can help with successful weightloss for a longer lasting effects. I myself have vertigo that comes and goes. So working out can be a hazard. The pills do more than make you feel full. ULoss has thousands of recepies to help you along your journey. The meals are balanced and you choose them, menues you chose yourself. I have purchased a isobag that can store meals for when I travel. So I can continue to make good choices where ever I am. Anyone with medical issues would have better success with this program, because its not a generic plan. The protein powder/ shakes tastes amazing!
The way I saw it was, I was on the way to becoming diabetic and my right leg was swelling. My heart was irregular at times. I thought to myself take these pills for 1 week, then less as I go along. Maybe when I'm 76 I won't be like my mom who takes 8 pills a day for the rest of her life! She can't see, her legs swell, and uses a walker. She can't even feel her feet any more.
I'm on the end of week 2. I feel better, eat better and I'm making better food choices.
Unlike some weight loss clinics, who are generic, don't measure you everywhere. Who provide processed meals that if you don't stay on them you gain weight.
U loss gives a person tools for long lasting effects. I have tried to do this on my own. Have been successful, but never keep it off. PS some resteraunts will plate your food, so that you can stay on your program, yet enjoy eating out with others. Just call ahead, bring your food and enjoy your day.

I joined Uloss and I stopped the program within 3 months. I was losing but not quick enough. I found them very condesending and non motivating. Everytime I came home from them I was very upset so my husband told me to stop. Their supplements made me sick but they didn't seem to care. Since dropping out they call me contiously at least 2-3 times a day. I asked them to stop but they haven't. I would definately not refer my friends or family to them. It worked for you so you say.

you can do it without the supplements.. it is a 1200 cal diet basically anyone can lose the weight if you do not cheat and try to work out this will help tremendously. the staff and the company make their MONEY from the supplement sales and their performance on their supplements are tested by a company they own and don't tell me its not true I know its true.

Just joined eight weeks ago. Clinic in my town closed down three weeks ago now. Was told I would have support from a nearby clinic. They never return my emails. They never make good on returning my phone calls. They won't return my money or set up consultations. I liked the accountability aspect and was doing extremely well. 22lbs in 8 weeks. Now I'm left on my own and realize that I can do this on my own. I tried herbal magic as they stepped up to help. Took three days to realize that their program costs $500 a month to continue on. It's absolutely ridiculous and coach was very condescending. I could buy a new car and have my sister weigh and measure me for free. Keep your money!!!!

I have been trying to get pregnant for 6 years, but nothing happened, I was 5'4" and 205 lbs. Started uloss and after 6 months dropped 23 lbs ( i cheated a lot!) but ended up pregnant. honestly believe the high protein food helped and pt my pcos under control.

Going back now to lose baby weight and will not be cheating!

I joined U Weightloss and they guarantee that you will lose an average of 2 lbs per week on their plan. In my opinion the plan is very very expensive and didn't work for me. In two weeks I lost .8 of a lb. I asked for a refund and was told NO. It's nothing but a scam plain and simple. So I lost $2000.00 plus the cost of their supplements that don't work.

Terribly, terribly expensive! Just another weight-loss program that is really not specific to you at all. You spend THOUSANDS of dollars for a bunch of pills that are really not "geared just for you" and high pressure, fast talking sales people that only care about getting your money! STAY AWAY and save your money! U weightloss is just another program that preys on over weight people's desparation to lose weight and have found a way to capitize on it and raises people's hopes only to show they really don't give a crap! It's all about making sure they get their #'s to make their money!

Hello Ladies (and Gentlemen if any of you are reading these notes)
I joined the program and I haven't ever been happier in my life: I've lost close to 30 pounds so far (still 20 more pounds to go). The happiness comes in fact from the understanding that I can (yes I can!!) loose weight, if I stick to the rules they have taught me. I was convinced my body just cannot loose any pound!! but that is totally untrue ...

My opinion is that It's not the pills that make me loose weight in fact in the program, but the perfectly balanced, low calories meals they teach me how to cook (well, I've cooked my entire life for my family, but I learnt easier, healthier, and more modern ways of cooking with this program). The pills just cut your appetite and cravings, so you don't plunge nasty hypoglycemic moments that will surely push you into cheating, and eating what else other than the forbidden carbohydrates :-(! and bounce back your weight.

I use one of the multiple apps available nowadays to monitor their meals: they are indeed perfectly balanced and that is to me the force and secret of the program. Now, if I were to spent time and discover, test and keep up with the market - as the true owner/s of this enterprise likely did - would I give it away free or for a cheap price? in an ever increasing market? Of course not!!

The ULoss trainers at my location are nice, well mannered and just do their jobs ("How can I make you smile today?"). I do not try to take but the good part of this program: it works and my goal is closer than ever before. And I am hoping I will be strong enough to stick to all the good lessons I learnt and I am hoping to not need help in future! but if I do, I know they can help.

I got ripped off big time. Paid for the whole program upfront totaling to almost 4 grand. Told that I was getting a better deal by paying upfront. Clinic closed down with no warning within a month. This was in August, it is now November and I am still trying to get my money back for a service I am not getting and products that I did not receive. In the month that I was in the program the staff was nice and it did seem to work, I was not hungry at all and all the pills did seem to contain only natural ingredients. However, it is completely unprofessional how they closed with no warning whatsoever and several months after none of my calls are ever returned in regards to getting my money back. Giving it till the end of the month then I am getting police involved in this scam of a company. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY PLEASE!

Anonymous said...

I am a former U Weight Loss Consultant with no ties to the company so I can speak freely. For one thing 2 lbs a week is never guaranteed. If you are writing in your food journal re the meal plans you are using for each day, visit the clinic 3 times a week for weigh ins, get your recipes for the week, take your U Loss which is the only supplement that you have to take to continue with the program, walk 10,000 steps each day then you can loose up to 2 lbs a week. This is calculated through the computer during the Healthy Weight Analysis. Secondly you can get your money back within 30 days, its written on the back of the contract. What company in their right mind would advertise that though? None that I know of because they want your business. It is up to the individual to read the fine print and yes the cost of the starter kit is not included in the refund. I use to do up calculations and I would lower the starter kit to $100. I never had a client pay $4500 for a program upon start up so I guess they had a lot of weight to lose and purchased everything up front. Not once did I ever mislead my clients nor did I state that maintenance was included. It is a different phase with supplements for a healthy body. It is recommended as the hardest thing to do is to maintain the weight loss no matter what program one is doing. Our clients loved us and we came to love them too as we saw them at their most vulnerable the day they joined to most happiest, the day they reached their goal. We were with them every step of the way & we all had a client that preferred one consultant over another so we tried to accommodate that as best we could. Our clients felt so comfortable with us that we usually knew their whole life story. Sadly those of you who have had negative experiences never had me for a health coach or the clinic I use to work for.
